Meet Sami Brazzi! She has been attending CrossFit Punta Gorda throughout her entire pregnancy.  She is an inspiration to all of us at CFPG. Thank you to  Haley Staack with HPS Photography for the great photo.

What brought you to CrossFit?
A co-worker, who had been coming to Crossfit Punta Gorda for a few months, encouraged me to come with her and try out a class. In the past I had been a ‘runner’ and dabbled in light weight training and I really hadn’t seen results. Plus it’s really hard for me to train on my own. Having a coach really keeps you on track and motivated.

What was your first impression?
It was TOUGH! I was hot, sweaty & exhausted but I enjoyed the challenge and the one on one instruction. Everyone in the class was extremely welcoming and encouraging. There wasn’t the intimidation factor that I had associated with Crossfit. John showed to be very knowledgeable, professional and personable.

What’s been your biggest accomplishment?
Sticking with it! I’ve always been the type to try something for a little while and then give up. I’ve been coming to Crossfit Punta Gorda since April of 2014 and I love it. I’ve had to scale back on certain exercises the last 8 months but I still feel I’m getting stronger every day.

So far in my pregnancy I have only gained 21lbs (I still have 5 weeks to go) and I feel even stronger than before I got pregnant. I believe that by continuing my Crossfit routine during pregnancy it has helped minimize weight gain, reduced swelling, helped to maintain a healthy sleep pattern, and provided a healthy environment for my little man.

What are you working on now?
Right now I’m trying not to gain too much weight during this pregnancy. In a few months I’ll be working on losing the baby weight, toning everything up and getting stronger. My two main goals post pregnancy are to do a strict pull up and a handstand push up.

What would you tell someone who is thinking of trying out CrossFit Punta Gorda?
DO IT! It’ll be the best decision you’ll ever make for your health and wellbeing. Not only have I learned how to properly do a power clean and push press but I’ve made some really wonderful friends at Crossfit Punta Gorda. I like how Crossfit is structured. Every day you walk in and the WOD is on the board and the coaches explain exactly what is going on for the day. They are happy to answer questions and explain in detail exactly how to execute each movement. They monitor the workout and instruct you when needed and tell you when you’re doing it right. The diversity of the WOD’s keeps your mind and your body on its toes and helps to provide a well-rounded experience.

What’s your favorite CrossFit Punta Gorda memory?
Just one? Is that even possible? 🙂 First place memory would be the first time seeing RX beside my name on the board. That was a pretty awesome day. Runner up for favorite memory would be the surprise baby shower that was thrown to celebrate my little guy. Crossfit Punta Gorda is more than a box, we’re a family.
